Barn Conversion

A barn conversion in Pinkneys Green, Berkshire.

Client: Remenham Farm Partnership

Completed: 2018

JSA submitted a full planning application in 2013 to demolish existing ancillary agricultural buildings and the conversion of existing redundant agricultural barns to provide 4 detached family dwellings with associated garages, gardens and stables at a site in the Parish of Cookham.

Historically, 2 applications, one outline and one full, both related to residential development had been refused.

After consulting with The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead through the means of a Pre-Application JSA sought to submit a well-argued, sympathetically remodeled and designed scheme in a Full Application. The application ensured that the rural character of the properties was maintained, the openness of the Green Belt was preserved and that the retention of mature trees was considered through the design and construction stage. In addition to JSA’s responsive design approach, we also combined this with the use of a sensitive palette of materials, ensuring that the new development was commensurate to its vulnerable Green Belt location.

All 4 of the dwellings are set within good-sized plots, each with wonderful views over the surrounding countryside from the principal rooms. Each house has been designed to complement and maximise its original style and features, retaining the character and structure and using this as the basis for the newly created homes.
